Function and Application

The ORIONMETER LA-IP-RSP and ORIONMETER LA-IP-RSP[A] devices are extended versions of the LA-IP device. The LA-IP-RSP is powered by a built-in battery, while the LA-IP-RSP[A] is powered by an external AC power supply. The ORIONMETER LA-IP-RSP[A] does not include an internal power source and operates from an external ~230 V AC network. In this configuration, the service life of the device is not dependent on battery capacity or the data transmission frequency.

The LA-IP-RSP is classified as a LoRaWAN Class A device, while the LA-IP-RSP[A] supports both Class A and C.

These devices are designed to count pulses received on three independent digital/pulse inputs, with periodic accumulation of counter values in built-in non-volatile memory. Both accumulated and current input data are transmitted via LoRaWAN radio communication.

The devices can also be used to monitor the state of connected external devices and transmit messages with current input statuses. Supported output types include reed switch (dry contact), mechanical button, or open collector (typically based on a transistor; a diode may be used in the circuit, but not as the primary switching element).

Additionally, the devices are equipped with an RS-485 interface port that allows connection to a wide range of external instruments. If the connected device lacks its own interface power supply, the ORIONMETER LA-IP-RSP can provide 9 V DC power: up to 40 mA for the LA-IP-RSP model and up to 50 mA for the LA-IP-RSP[A] model.

The ORIONMETER LA-IP-RSP and LA-IP-RSP[A] devices can be used as remote data acquisition tools for utility metering devices — including water, gas, heat, and electricity meters. In addition, they are suitable for integration with various types of security, fire safety, and engineering systems, such as motion detectors, glass break sensors, smoke detectors, as well as leak detection systems for water and gas. Thanks to the presence of an RS-485 interface and LoRaWAN communication capabilities, the devices are suitable for use in automated control systems (ACS) and for monitoring technological parameters in both residential and industrial environments.

info

The use of the externally powered model (LA-IP-RSP[A]) is not recommended for pulse counting in critical applications, as the device stops functioning when power is lost, while external equipment (e.g., a water meter with a reed switch output) may continue generating pulses — which would be permanently lost. However, in cases where the device is powered from the same source as the pulse-generating equipment (e.g., an electricity meter), and pulses are not generated during power outages, such use is acceptable.
