M-BUS
The OrionMeter LA-IP-MBUS device is designed for polling metering devices via the M-Bus interface and transmitting the collected data over a LoRaWAN network.
It supports both standard and non-standard meters through its built-in universal driver and support for specialized (proprietary) drivers.
Universal Driver
The built-in universal driver operates as a finite state machine and is designed for flexible interaction with various types of meters. It supports two modes of operation:
Standard Addressed Mode
Recommended for typical M-Bus meters that fully comply with the EN 13757-3 standard.
In this mode, the device:
- polls the meter using a specified address (network or serial);
- uses standard M-Bus commands:
SND_NKE,SND_UD2,REQ_UD2; - expects a standard response:
RSP_UD.
Custom Mode
Intended for meters that require:
- non-standard command sequences;
- special timing or delays;
- custom response parsing logic.
This mode allows the user to define the entire exchange sequence and enables integration with partially compatible or legacy devices.
Specialized Drivers
For certain meter models with closed command structures and non-standard protocols, proprietary drivers are implemented.
These drivers include:
- full command generation logic;
- parsing of non-standard responses;
- built-in templates and profiles tailored for specific meter models.
Proprietary drivers allow:
- access to the
maximum amount of available datafrom the meter; - retrieval of
hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly archives; - reading of
diagnostic parameters, error flags, and internal status; - collection of data from multiple channels, including pulse inputs and temperature sensors;
- control of time parameters and meter-specific settings at a deeper level.
Supported Models
Elf-MKarat 213 / 223
Further details can be found in the sections dedicated to each mode and driver.
Custom proprietary drivers can be developed upon request for metering devices from other manufacturers or models.
